Ooh, YSL has always been one of my favourite beauty houses for mascara treats so I was delighted to get my hands on one I hadn’t tried before – YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara (£26), which came out about 18 months ago.
YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara has a patent-pending vinyl formula – meaning that it has been formulated to produce smooth, shiny, lasting colour and a texture which doesn’t become chalky or crumbly. The colours – there are nine to choose from, including fuchsia pink and cobalt blue – have been designed to remain absolutely pure. In other words, the vibrancy of the bright shades and the intensity of the black and neutrals should last as long as you’re wearing them.
Volumising, curling and lengthening are the effects that YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara promises right from the very first stroke. So, all in all, quite a tall order!
I must say, I loved YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara as soon as I started to use it; the familiar scent of the mascara gave me flashbacks to when I had a bit of a YSL mascara habit …
The brush is medium-sized and quite conventional looking and it does a good job of curling the lashes. I tried the No2 shade, I’m The Unpredictable, a subtle and intense aubergine colour which turned out to be very flattering with my blue eyes.
I wouldn’t say that YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara ticks the lengthening box, but it certainly does an impressive job of creating volume. So, all in all, it’s a big thumbs-up from me as volume and curling are my two big mascara demands. And this one does both – in style!
