It’s years since I last used a YSL foundation so I was eager to try YSL All Hours Foundation (£33.50), which launched recently. However, it only took one drop to whisk me back in time, so familiar is the melon-like fragrance of this creamy base.
YSL All Hours Foundation promises a flawless matte complexion that lasts for up to 24 hours. It claims to be waterproof and transfer-resistant, offering full coverage in a blendable texture. Not only does it promise to control shine throughout the day, but it also works to reduce the appearance of pores.
After my initial bout of nostalgia for the YSL foundation signature scent, I took a little convincing about YSL All Hours Foundation. The colour – one of 22 on offer – was a great match for my fair Celtic skin but the slightly heavy creamy liquid was a little difficult to manoeuvre on my skin. After the first couple of attempts with it, I found that the best way (for me, with my dehydration-prone skin) to use YSL All Hours Foundation is to apply it more quickly than usual after my moisturiser as it makes it easier to work with, and it also means that I use less – before, on drier-feeling skin, I was using far too much.
I can’t say I tested YSL All Hours Foundation over a 24 hour period to assess its longevity claims – I generally take my make-up off before I hit the sack – but it did last well through the day and I didn’t feel the need (as I often do) to touch up my base at all.
So I’d say its a winner. It’s worth noting that the formula of YSL All Hours Foundation is enriched with a skincare complex and UV filter and that it’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The fact that it also has an SPF of 20 makes it a gold medal winner!
