Rimmel Magnif’eyes Eye Primer (£4.99) is one of those products which just does exactly what it says on the tube. It’s a creamy-textured eye base designed to even out the skin tone and provide a foundation for eyeshadow, making it last round the clock and keeping its colour looking fresh.
I must say, I have been pretty impressed with Rimmel Magnif’eyes Eye Primer, and would certainly recommend it if you are prone – as I am – to your eyeshadow sliding off your eyelids when you get too hot, or when you’re in a warm climate.
When I was younger and my skin was oilier, eye bases were a key component of my make-up routine. Disappearing eyeshadow, along with panda eyes, were the bane of my life if I skipped the eye base stage. As I’ve grown older, however, and as eyeshadow technology has evolved, I’ve had less need of a base for my eye make-up – although they do come in useful on nights-out or very long days when you know you’re going to be on the go and/or under pressure.
So, I reckon that Rimmel Magnif’eyes Eye Primer is good buy, a product it’s worth having in your make-up bag for use as and when you think you’ll need it. And, unlike some of the other inexpensive eye bases on the market, this one has a shelf life of 24 months so even if you don’t use it much in the first six months, you will probably still get value for money out of it even if you only use it occasionally over the subsequent year and a half.
Update: I’ve just done a comparison with Bourjois Eye Primer, which I reviewed earlier this year, and I prefer the texture of the Bourjois and find it slightly easier to work with. But it’s a couple of quid more – so it’s a bit of a toss-up as to which I would go out and buy next time I run out!
