My name is Alison and I’m a liquid lipstick addict … Well, come on – who wouldn’t be? There are just too many to choose from at the moment – and it looks like Maybelline Color Drama Intense Lip Paint (£4.99) is set to be another firm favourite. And yet, I fully expected not to like these little tubes of lip colour because they don’t come with a wand – and recent experiences of liquid lipsticks without wands have resulted in a bit of a mess.
Instead of a wand, the dinky wee tubes of Maybelline Color Drama Intense Lip Paint have a built-in sponge applicator with an angled tip. To my surprise, this works beautifully as a means of application; the angled tip ensures that you don’t have any wonky lines. The key is to deposit the colour in the centre of each lip and then draw it out to the outer corners of the mouth.
I was very impressed with how vibrant and glossy the colours of Maybelline Color Drama Intense Lip Paint are – and particularly loved the Red-dy Or Not (a deep pinky red) and Stripped Down (a browny nude) shades. Unfortunately, there are currently only five shades available (the fifth is a purple which I was not tempted to try!) but hopefully more will be launched – certainly Maybelline seems to be on to a winner with them as they were sold out on Superdrug online when I looked them up.
The colour lasts extremely well (so much so that it has ended up on my bathroom towel on more than one occasion, despite my having dowsed my lips in make-up remover); the only thing I haven’t liked is the fruity, melony scent though luckily that disappears quite quickly after application.
