If there’s one beauty brand that knows how to do mascaras, it’s Estée Lauder … I long since lost count of how many Lauder mascaras I’ve tried during my 20-odd years as a beauty writer; one that does stick in my memory is the vibrating mascara from maybe around 15 years ago, which seems to have been discontinued at some point. This winter, we have Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara (£25.50) flying the flag for the American beauty company’s status as a top purveyor of innovative mascaras.
What’s different about Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara is that it has a dual-purpose wand which can produce three distinct results. One half of the wand has nylon fibre bristles which build volume and lift the lashes, while the other half is a silicone moulded brush which provides length and separates the lashes. In other words, you can opt for lift and volume if you stick to the bristley side of Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara, or you can choose length and separation if you exclusively use the silicone side.
The idea is that if you use both parts of the wand, you will get a dramatic effect, which is also possible thanks to the intense pigments.
I was very impressed with Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara. I used it quite a few times without realising that it had two different brushes, and I certainly noticed that it was easy to create volume, a curl and bit of length. Using the two sides separately, the difference in the effects that can be produced is obvious.
I imagine most women will have an idea of what they want from their mascara and will probably favour one side all the time, or just use the wand without checking which bit they’re using. The only possible drawback for me about Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara was that on more occasions than not, I did get some smudging. But it certainly wasn’t enough of an issue to make me happy to miss out on using it in the future.
