Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation (£29) is a bloody marvel. Since I started using this foundation, I keep finding myself admiring my skin in the mirror – and that, I can assure you, is not usually a habit of mine.
The foundation comes from the new Backstage range from Dior – there are Backstage Studios, which stand apart from Dior counters, in selected department stores round the country. Peter Philips designed the collection, which was inspired by the demands and expectations of models and makeup artists at fashion shows. The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is essentially its centrepiece – and it comes in an impressive 40 shades, which allow for subtle differences in the skin’s undertones.
I’ve been wearing the 1CR (1 Cool Rosy) shade of Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation, which is absolutely spot-on for me as I am very pale, with a slight pink undertone.
Obviously, catwalk conditions require products which will withstand heat and humidity and stress both on the runway and backstage – and that is what Philips sought to create in Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation. It has a light, “second-skin” texture and can be built up to whatever intensity the wearer prefers, leaving the skin looking natural and luminous. When I had this foundation used on me the first couple of times at the Backstage Dior counter in Debenhams in Glasgow, I wasn’t that impressed: I felt that I looked too shiny and that redness in my skin shone through sooner than I would have expected.
However, once I had a bottle of my own to experiment with, I fell in love. I can build it up slightly more on my cheeks than elsewhere if I like, and I find that it lasts all day with no need to top up. Now, I’m actually loving it as much as the other Dior foundation I reviewed recently – Dior Capture Totale Serum Foundation, which was double the price!
