Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara

I’ve just had a turbulent affair with Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara (£18) – every time I have an encounter with it, I fall in love briefly and intensely, and then it goes and upsets me. But now the relationship is well and truly over and I’ll have nothing more to do with it …

Let’s start at the very beginning. Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara won this stumpy-lashed gal over in just a couple of sweeps thanks to its ability to make eyelashes look utterly sensational, without any great effort. Crucially, its lightweight mousse formula contains innovative curling polymers which shape and hold the lashes in place and help to prevent them from drooping as the day goes on.

The tapered brush of Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara is ideal for bending and lifting the lashes, and does a great job of adding volume and a bit of length. So far, so gorgeous. I love the intensity of the blackness that Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara bestows on my lashes and how easily and quickly it creates drama. The icing on the cake would be the fact that it contains conditioning Mamey Oil, from the Mamey Sapote fruit, and this ensures that lashes stay supple and soft even with two coats of mascara on top of them.

So what’s the problem, I hear you cry… Well, the first stirrings of a rift between me and my mascara were when I spotted the dreaded panda eyes as I passed the mirror about an hour after application. I had dark smudges under both eyes, and the next time I looked I had matching smudges above each lid too.

And as if that wasn’t enough to put me off Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara, it turns out it is an absolute bugger to remove. It might transfer on to skin above and below the eyes when you don’t want it to, but when you do want to make it budge, it just clings on. Even Clinique 2-in-1 Cleansing Micellar Gel & Light Makeup Remover, the new cleanser launched at the same time, doesn’t easily remove this gripper of a mascara.

I’ve given it several chances to redeem itself, but each time Clinique 2-in-1 Cleansing Micellar Gel & Light Makeup Remover has just annoyed me all over again so that’s it; we’re through!

Have you tried it? How did you get on?
