I had high hopes for Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly (£31) – not least because I was needing a new day cream when it landed on my doorstep – but I have to say, I have been a bit disappointed in it.
Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly has been designed as a new third stage option in Clinique’s iconic 3-Step Skin Care System; one with protection from pollution plus a new water-jelly consistency which promises 24 hours’ hydration.
It has a sort of natural filter system going on (a blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract and cucumber fruit extract), which locks in goodness – such as moisture – and filters out the bad, such as pollutants. At the same time, says Clinique, it strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier and improves resiliency.
I have no reason to doubt that Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly wasn’t doing all of the above during the couple of weeks I was using it. However, the claim that the oil-free formula is “non-sticky” and “leaves no residue” just didn’t hold up for me. I found that, even when using a very small amount indeed, my skin felt tacky – and looked shiny – for a long time afterwards. It also seemed to react a bit to the product, leaving me with a flare-up of redness which hadn’t been an issue for quite a while.
Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly certainly does feel moisturising and that feeling lasts long after it has been applied, but it’s just not worth the shininess and stickiness to me. The redness might not have been the fault of this new product, and if it wasn’t for the other issues, I would maybe give it another go further down the line … As it is, forget it!
