It may not be a new product but Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector (£18.50) is one which I haven’t tried before (or at least don’t remember trying) .. However, it came to my attention recently when I was sent the two latest colours in the range – and now I’m wondering why this impressive balm hasn’t been a regular member of my lip colour collection over the last few years!
Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector is described as a “melting gel lip balm” which “glides on the lips effortlessly adding a naturally coloured glossy shine with a barely-there effect. Lips look plump, smooth and luscious.”
All of which is pretty accurate – though I found that if you don’t want the colour to look sheer on your lips, you need to do a bit of gliding back-and-forth action to build it up. I love the Plum shade (above right) – a vibrant violet colour which I probably wouldn’t go near in normal lipstick form but as a glossy balm is much easier to pull off. What’s more, the colour lasted much longer than I would have expected – a stain remains for a while after the initial glossy colour hit has worn off.
The Hot Pink (actually more of a coral-pink; a lovely retro sort of lipstick shade) is also beautiful and seems a little less sheer. I’ve worn it alone for a bright, fresh summery look and have also found that blotted, and with a layer of my normal lipstick over it, it brings a bit of glossy warmth to my fall-back nude pink shade.
As usual with Clarins lip products, I’m not overly keen on the scent of the balm – and its “deliciously sweet taste” is more off-putting than appealing (what am I? Ten years old?!) but that’s a minor – and very personal – negative in an otherwise lovely item.
