It’s not new but Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet (£8.99) has recently expanded its range of colours and so is ripe for review!
I’m sure I tried these matte liquid lipsticks when they first came out four years ago but I don’t remember liking them as much (I do know that I didn’t rate the Souffle versions they brought out which I found dry and with an off-putting scent!).
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet is designed to provide an intense, matte colour while remaining comfortable on the lips. Bourjois describes it as having a lightweight, velvety texture and a non-drying, comfortable formula which will last 24 hours. It now comes in 36 shades, as 14 new ones were added earlier this year.
I’ve been wearing the gorgeous Babe Idole shade of Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet (pictured far right in the photo) – it’s a gorgeous shocking pink, but not as sharp or harsh as some, and surprisingly easy to wear. I loved the application and was delighted to note that there was no off-putting scent from it (which there often seems to be with matte liquid lipsticks). The colour was vibrant but I found that it lost its initial lustre quite quickly before settling into a stain which lasted for hours.
Frankly, I’m not looking for lip colour to last 24 hours, and I expect to re-apply my lippie after I’ve been eating, so I’m not too bothered about the fact that it didn’t last very long on me before it became more of a stain. I’m more concerned about comfort, as I have dry lips which are often averse to matte lipsticks, and I found the Rouge Edition Velvet absolutely fine and very wearable. I’m now looking forward to getting acquainted with some of the other new shades!
