For Valentine’s Day this year, Bobbi Brown is focusing on the red lip with her Red Hot Collection which comprises eight shades of her Luxe Lip Colors (£25 each) and Lip Colors (£21 each) plus the limited edition Bobbi Brown Sultry Nude Eye & Cheek Palette (£48), which I was sent to try.
A cleverly designed two-tier, hinged box with the quartet of eyeshadows on top and a pull-out drawer housing the blusher below, the Bobbi Brown Sultry Nude Eye & Cheek Palette reminded me of an old-fashioned trunk, the sort that you see the chic heroines of 1930s Hollywood movies telling their maids to pack when they’re heading off on a cruise. It is gorgeous and glamorous and would be a lovely gift or treat.
But is it just a pretty case – or could it also be a good beauty buy? Well, I was very impressed with the colours and how well they blended and lasted; not that I was surprised, given the quality of Bobbi Brown products generally. The four, universally flattering eyeshadow shades are beautiful – Champagne Shimmer Wash, Champagne Truffle Shimmer Wash, Golden Pink Metallic and Black Chocolate – and extremely versatile. These choices make it easy to create whatever look you need, whether it’s a pretty nude eye, a sophisticated daytime look or a smoky eye which could be very intense, thanks to the deep brown shade. There are endless possibilities.
I found the Nectar Blush shade of blusher a little strong and had to tone it down a bit but I got away with it, and it would certainly work well for me for an evening look.
Personally, I like the Bobbi Brown Sultry Nude Eye & Cheek Palette with a nude or pink lip, rather than one of the proposed reds, but I’d love to hear how everybody else gets on. Please let me know if you splash out on this palette, and how useful you find it…
And if you wore it for a Valentine’s date, how did it go?!!
